Act this Women's Day to Stop the Violence in the Congo
The Issue
March 8th is International Women's Day and an opportunity to highlight the ongoing human rights struggles of women around the world. But for this Women's Day, I would like to focus on the Congo.
With rape used as a tool of war, the women and girls of the Congo bear the brunt of one of the world's most brutal conflicts.
Act this Women's Day to help stop the violence in the Congo.
Since 1998, an estimated 5.4 million people have died due to ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and rape and other sexual assaults are systematically used to devastate the civilian population. For the situation of women to improve, the fighting must come to an end.
Please tell President Obama that the U.S. needs a special envoy to help end the conflict in the DRC.
Target: President Obama
