For-profit private prisons have increased in our nation. It makes no sense to allow the crimial justice system give their reponsibility over to private individuals whose only motive is to make a profit on the sufferings and mistakes of other humans. We have the largest prison population in the world. We use antiquated notions of rehabilitation and justice...plut them in jail and throw away the key philosophy. If we truly believe in democracy shouldn't we spend more on educating our people what their place and responsibility is in a democracy rather than incarcerating them after a criminal act?

Dear Senator Specter

For-profit private prisons have proliferated at an alarming rate in our country, Individuals profiting off the misery and wrong doings of our weakest citizens. In fact, the US has the largest prison population in the world,. This is not that we love justice more than anyone else, but that we seldom want to face the hard reality that in many cases we have failed to educate our people to their responsibility in a free and democratic society. If we put the vast sums of money we spent on many prisoners into better schools, urged parents to teach their kids what it means to be a good citizen, and urged religious groups to do the same, the money would be better spent in this democratic society. My hope is that you can do something to stir the conscious of the Senate to deal with this issue. When we truly believe in justice we can proudly say WE the People.
