A Student on deportation. Help Rogelio and Others stay in the Country
The Issue
My story, I was born in Managua Nicaragua in 1986. My family had a long history with the Frente Sandinista of National Liberation. My grandfather, Manuel Antonio Morales was murdered by the Sandinistas because they thought he was against the Sandinista regimen. They arrested him, tortured him and he died due to the beating and his diabetes. After all this happen our family always had problems with revolutionaries. Not the government itself but Sandinista fanatics. My dad has been attacked a few times. When I was about 12 years old he was attacked with knives and almost died. After that incident my family went looking for the people who attacked him, including me. I was a twelve year old ready to go hurt somebody. That's when my mother decided to bring me to California. Since I got here, life has been so much better at least for me and this is where I want to stay.
I currently attend Chabot college in Hayward, CA. I need five more classes to be able to transfer. I am a P.E major since sports are what I've always done. I would love to be a P.E. Teacher or open my own martial arts academy. My current goal is to transfer to San Jose state get my education done and give back to the society.
Facing deportation is one of the hardest things I have to deal with. On a night of April of 2009 I decided to go eat with a friend. After eating with my friend (William Villeda), a group of other friends showed up at the place and we all decided to go to a club. My friend William was a bit drunk and on the way out of the club the police stopped him as he walked to the car. When I saw him get arrested my reaction was to go see what was going on. I wasn't drunk since I don't drink. In fact, my friends made fun of me that night saying I won’t be able to sleep because I was drinking soda. The thing is that the police officer asked me if I knew William. I truthfully said yes, the officer replied oh you are with him! and arrested me. They took our information and took us to the Hayward police station and than to the county jail for three days. They let us out with an ankle bracelet. Now I'm facing deportation and all my dreams and family could be destroyed.
