Keep Cleveland Chiropractic from profiting by leaving students without degree and staggering loans
The Issue
For profit schools should not be able to close a school to make money and leave the students with crushing student loans and an unfinished degree. If a school brings you in and promises an education it should be required to finish that promise and make sure no student in good academic standings is left without their degree. When a for profit school's board of directors says making money is more important than our obligation to hard working students, then the people need to fight back and tell them they are wrong. (Besides, the school receives federal financial aid, so we are all paying for it.)
My school, Cleveland Chiropractic College has decided to close our campus. They have left 300 students, each paying over $20,000 a year stranded without their degrees. The inability of the school to use the enormous amounts of tuition coming into the school properly has now cost me and hundreds of other student’s years of their lives and tens of thousands of dollars. The schools response is "Find a new school that offers a similar degree or move to Kansas City and complete your degree with us." they fail to mention anyone training to obtain the Bachelor’s degree will have only a small fraction of their classes transfer to a university, and that there is less than a dozen Chiropractic schools in the country. ( I now get to drive 2 hours each and every day to commute to my new school.)
For profit colleges should be held to the same standard as any federally funded College in the nation. They should be required to have education be their top priority. We all know the kind of debt this nation has, and everyone in this country should have a say in where their money goes. As for me, my money has vanished, and your money has gone towards financial aid that went to a nonexistent degree.
I call on you to sign a petition to tell Cleveland Chiropractic College to do the right thing and pay back the students who have invested into their future to only see their time wasted. It’s time to make education a top priority and not the paychecks of those who run our schools.
