A Petition for more effective representation of the American people by the United States Senate.
A Petition for more effective representation of the American people by the United States Senate.
The Issue
The United States Senate as it is currently configured does not represent the people under the one man one vote principle. The seven smallest populated States with an aggregate population of approximately 5 million citizens elect 14 United States Senators. The seven largest populated States with an aggregate population of approximately 136 million citizens elect the same number of United States Senators, 14. This position is borne out by the 2010 United State Census Bureau data published by the United States Department of Commerce. This inequity in representation has created a system of government whereby the plurality of the people do not have equal representation under the law. If allowed to continue, this current state of affairs will most definitely lead to a deterioration in our system of life. To the point where our domestic jobs are being exported overseas, our banking system is failing and our fellow citizens are being tossed from their homes. In order to prevent the continued deterioration of our standard of living we, the people petition the United States Government to change the methodology used to elect individuals to the United States Senate. Using the one man one vote principle and single member districts, we propose that the United States Sentae Districts should be reconstituted to more accurately represent the citizenry.
