Yesterday, a heartbreaking video was released showing a dinner lady from Lancashire opening up about how she’s feeling as the start of term approaches.

In the video, the dinner lady tells Politics Joe how she’s now forced to tell more and more children they can’t afford to eat a school lunch as they reach the front of the queue, and find there’s no money in their account.

“I spend as much time taking food away from children as I do serving it. It’s breaking my heart.”

This is urgent. Young people are heading back to school now, and so many of us are missing out on a healthy and nutritious meal. This isn’t right.

140,000 people have signed my petition calling on the new Prime Minister to make free school meals available to all children living in poverty.
