Gazprom is one of UEFA's six sponsoring partners for the high-profile football tournament, the most watched annual sporting event in the world, with a global audience of 4.2 billion people.

Gazprom have teamed up with Shell to extract resources from the Arctic Shelf. This is in spite of the fact that fossil fuel firms such as Gazprom have several times more carbon in their reserves than the atmosphere can safely absorb.

Many institutions are disassociating with fossil fuel companies as a result. Football should follow suit and not be used to whitewash the image of these corporations. UEFA should not be adding legitimacy to Gazprom.
