PIP Legislation for Families with Young Carers!
The Issue
My name is Olivia Ferguson and I am 14 years old. My family consists of my Mother and Two older Brothers (aged 16, and 20 - moved out), we have been a single parent family since 2008, and our Father has no contact. In 2010, my Mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and I became her primary carer, aged 8. I cook, clean and care for Mum's every need.
On 6th April 2016, I started a blog called 'The Odd Pigeon' sharing my experiences as a Young Carer. I aim to spread awareness for Multiple Sclerosis and Young Carers.
My Family and I are facing the trouble of Personal Independence Payment, and are awaiting our Medical Assessment. Although, other cases of PIP have been cruelly taken away from thousands of MS Sufferers across the country. Having seen the outcome of the others that have undergone the Assessment, we aren't holding out much hope.
If Mum's disability is taken away, we lose over £270 a month and all methods of transport, as Mum drives a disability car. Despite wanting to, Mum is physically unable to work, we have no source of income coming in, other then the benefits we receive.
My Mother never asked for this debilitating disease, and I can assure you her bad days much outweigh the few good days. I cannot tell you how worrying this all is.

I realise the value of these assessments, in order to ensure the money is distrubuted properly. If only the legislation would delay Assessments for families with long term illnesses, and young carers until that child reached the end of further education. MS surely cannot be assessed over an hour period, as her capabilities fluctuate day to day.
Scott Mann, MP for our county has been in contact to support this movement and has mentioned it in Parliament. It would be of value to know how many people support this move! The Parliament video is attached below:
