Make permanent the temporary freeze on conversion of the Westmount Square office towers to a residential use.

The Issue

We the Retail and Office Tenants of Westmount Square and concerned citizens of Westmount hereby declare our opposition to the proposed conversion of the commercial towers of Westmount Square to residential usage.

Westmount Square is a heritage building uniquely designed by Mies van der Roh, one of the world’s most acclaimed architects. Fundamental to the design was the combination of residential, office and retail components thus ensuring a mutually beneficial flow of consumer traffic and services.

Converting the office towers to residential usage would  not only diminish retail activity  in Westmount Square but throughout the Greene Ave./Ste Catherine St. commercial sector.

We encourage City Council to make permanent the temporary freeze on conversion of the Westmount Square office towers to a residential use.
