We urgently need to diminish the amount of mass government surveillance that spies and examines technological information from millions of innocent American citizens.  This system initially began in order to protect American citizens from terrorists attacks such as the 9/11 tragedy.  But surveillance agencies such as the NSA (National Surveillance Agency) have abused their power and are spying on Americans who are not associated with any terrorist activity.

Citizens’ trust in the government is essential for the government and the people to work in coalition. Unfortunately trust between the nation is crumbling as people's civil liberties and privacy rights are being ignored in the NSA’s tracking programs. Our goal is to get this conflict the recognition it deserves for issues concerning people's liberties are ones not to be taken lightly.  Luckily, petitioning for a change in this infringement of rights is one way for people to be more aware of what the NSA is doing and how it is affecting our basic rights, even without the people knowing.
