Prevent Chevron Corporation from conducting business in Canada until they right their wrongs in Ecuador.

The Issue

"Whereas Chevron Corporation owns 20 percent of the Alberta oil sands development controlled by Royal Dutch Shell; and

"Whereas Villagers in Ecuador obtained a US$19-billion judgment against Chevron following a decades-long court case, proving the environmental and human devastation caused by the corporation,  which the plaintiffs are currently attempting to enforce in Ontario, Canada; and

"Whereas Chevron Corporation has revenues larger than the GDPs of 138 Nations, yet it refuses to pay-up and concede to its wrongdoings in Ecuador;

"Whereas Chevron Corporation is also the cause of millions of deaths and illnesses around the world because of irresponsible and unsafe operations;

"Therefore, we, the undersigned, petition the House of Commons as follows:

"Prevent Chevron Corporation from conducting business in Canada until they right their wrongs in Ecuador by settling with the Indigenous plaintiffs; and clean up their act, strictly adhering to both socially and environmentally responsible practices both overseas and in Canada.”
