DO NOT ALLOW a Casino complex in the Woodbury, Harriman, Monroe, NY area

DO NOT ALLOW a Casino complex in the Woodbury, Harriman, Monroe, NY area
The Issue
We must make our voices heard to the NY State Gaming Commission, Facility Location Selection Committee now. Deadline for public comment to the Gaming Commission is Tuesday, September 30, 2014 -- speak now! Your comment will help enable them to make an appropriate decision as to which casino applications and locations will be approved.
We strongly oppose the shortsighted and irreparably detrimental plan to build a huge casino complex adjacent to the protected Harriman State Park, alongside the Ramapo Mountains and Ramapo River, on 129 acres of open space and wetlands on the borders of Harriman and Monroe, in Woodbury, NY. The nature of the area and quality of life in these small town communities will be forever changed. If the Gaming Facilities Location Board selects this pastoral area, the gateway to the Hudson Valley and Catskills, as a gaming location, a massive casino complex will be built (including a hotel, casino, outdoor venue, and garage) that will be seen for miles around, forever marring the view of the mountains and valley. Endless traffic, water and sewage issues, increase in pollution (air, water, light), noise, decreased property values, negative impacts on local businesses and the local economy, stresses and costs to municipal services, and increase in crime and DWI will be the result if the casino is built in this location. The proposed location is within just a moment's drive from our Monroe-Woodbury elementary schools and our Little League baseball fields. This proposal comes from Caesars Entertainment just as Atlantic City hotels, including theirs, have failed and are closing. This is the wrong location for a casino and we do not want it here. We stand firm in opposition to the proposed Woodbury Casino and together in our efforts to protect Woodbury, Harriman and Monroe. We also oppose proposed casinos in Sterling Forest and South Blooming Grove. Please sign the petition and a letter will be emailed on your behalf.
