To stop to use Serengeti Global Services (LTD) in UK for Vehicle Inspection before Shipping to Tanzania
The Issue
SAY NO TO DOUBLE TAXATION BY THE TANZANIA GOVERNMENT (TBS)
From the 16 March 2015 the Tanzania Government in conjunction with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) have announced a new scheme relating to the process of exporting cars from abroad.
UK residents are required to provide their vehicles to an appointed independent agency namely Serengeti for inspection before they are considered safe to be shipped to Tanzania. This process will cost $200.00 per car.
However, every car owner in the UK is required by law to undergo the same process this new scheme is providing in regards to the vehicles they own. This test is conducted by the UK Ministry of transport for vehicle and road safety and costs £50.00 per car. The process is completed by a highly qualified agent utilizing unique engineering equipments for the purpose. These are qualified and very competent agents with years of experience and reliability behind them and operates within highly acceptable standards the world over.
Now, considering that our cars (Tanzanians living in the UK) have already been certified safe by qualified and experienced agency, we fail to understand the purpose of this scheme.
Tanzanians who reside in the UK rejects this idea in the strongest and absolute terms, for, we feel that, it is wrong, unfair and very questionable in every sense of imagination. We strongly feel that this scheme has got nothing to do with safety standards but a dubious operation to make money that will not benefit our country or our people in any practical aspect.
We therefore request the Government of Tanzania to abandon this exercise with immediate effect as it is an absolutely unnecessary exercise which will benefit no one other than the authors of this scheme
