Dear St Maarten Government, 

The dump in the great salt pond has been a problem for too long now, it is affecting the health of everyone living and visiting the island. The weekly toxic fumes due to fires are causing great health concerns; it is time to take action now to protect the health of our people. It is time that your Government shows they do care about the people living on St Maarten.

To effectively protect the health of St Maarteners we urge you to:

• Immediately take action to prevent any further dump fires

• Take action now to get a solution for the dump and St Maarten’s waste management.

• Start with building the Waste to Energy Plant and start removing the dump by shipping garbage off the island.

• Take action to decrease garbage and waste input into the dump; through significantly increasing recycling, ban disposable plastics and Styrofoam’s, and promote reusable products and recycling.

Your leadership is key in providing a healthy environment to live on for now and in the future!
