We as Indians consider caste as an important element of our identity, who we are, who we are supposed to be. However, there are many caste and religion based prejudices which hinder communal harmony and equality. One of them is the resistance towards inter caste and inter religion marriages.

Our caste system promotes marriage only within the same caste, which ensures continual seperation and segregation of our communities. Many couples today are battling the decision of inter caste marriage with their parents where the parents and families consider the union as blasphemy and a definite cause of social ridicule. It doesn’t end there. We have seen honor killings, broken families and much more. Untill we become accepting of people of any caste, and allow them into our homes, our national integration will not be complete in the true sense of the word.

If the government can appreciate the bold step of inter caste and religion marriages in the society through incentives, it'll lead to a gradual change in the mindset of people and slowly they would start becoming open to the idea of inter caste marriages.
