The Issue

Mr. Allen, now 93, was an important part of the lives of his students, faculty and staff of the Irmo School system for many years.  He took the system through  successful implementations of new and integrated schools, giving special attention to upgrade from mostly basic education and vocational curriculum to adding much needed college-prep courses.  This was sometimes quite a challenge since the tax base was quite lower than what it is today.

Since his retirement, Mr. Allen has kept in touch with many of his former students, faculty and staff and until his recent health failure, has lived in the neighborhood behind IHS, attended his church and supported many community clubs and functions.  He still remembers many of his students, their families, faculty and staff and never passes up an opportunity to spend time with them.  Some of us now know him as a friend in our adult life and still find him to be kind, compassionate and genuinely caring. We feel our generation has been omitted from any dedications that honor or memorialize those who made our schools excellent for their time. He helped mold Vocational adults, Professionals, Educators, and Technicians.  We wish to have Mr. Allen remembered forever for his contribution to all of our lives.

It would be nice to present this honor to Mr. Allen once it has been approved whether or not it has been fully implemented.  This is an urgent request since Mr. Allen is in such poor health. Please forward to your contacts or put on your Facebook page.

Thanks for your support.
