Much of our current education system runs on the biological essentialist approach, which only recognizes two genders (man/woman) and states that they are derived from biology/anatomy. Through this petition I am hoping to achieve implementing diversity training/workshops at STU, potential for guest speakers on certain topics (if the professor feels uncomfortable teaching it), as well as I am working on a self-lead education manual for those who do not have the time to attend in person trainings.

Ideally it is my goal to highlight how only teaching within the binary hinders our education not only currently but also for those who choose to further their education (social work/education/psychology). I know that this is not likely the intentions of professors/educators, but rather it comes from a lack of insight on the topic. Therefore, I am hoping by providing an opportunity for education and insight that we will see a shift in our education standards and develop a more inclusive as well as safer environment for trans and queer student.
