The use of the Alexander Library by patrons unaffiliated with Rutgers University detracts from the learning environment that students and faculty desire.  It is a public safety concern and Rutgers Students have the right to feel secure in university buildings.  It should also be noted that while this petition is taking place, efforts and plans to find nearby alternative shelters for homeless patrons are underway.
