I’m a son of Mexican immigrants born in the United States. And no, we’re not rapists, nor drug addicts, nor drug dealers, nor criminals, as Donald Trump stated some days ago about Mexican and Latino immigrants, the same day he announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States of America for the Republican Party.

In a country with more than 54 million people of Latin American origin, that type of speech is completely out of place and only seeks to further divide the country and create tensions for people of color and immigrants. Without a doubt unsuitable for a person intending to contend for the Presidency of a country built by immigrants.

That’s why it is important to ask the Republican Party to reject his candidature. A person with such a discriminatory, racist and hate filled speech shouldn’t be considered for the Presidency of the United States of America. The consequences of his political decisions could be devastating. And the problem is that the risk is high: Donald Trump is in second place within the Republican militancy, just behind Jeb Bush.

As an American of Mexican descent and as an anthropologist specialized in migration between the two countries, I cannot allow that a person like Donald Trump aspires to the highest office in the United States. Let’s stop it, by saying: NO to the candidature of Donald Trump for the Presidency of the United States!
