Each year MILLIONS of lost pets that can't be ID'd are put to sleep - Make ID tags, microchips for pets mandatory

The Issue

Each year more than 7 million pets end up in animal shelters, and sadly, more than 2.5 million are put to sleep. Shocking statistics on the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) website.

Most of us regard our pets as family members. Nobody wants to loose a loved one, but for many pet owners this is a reality. Every year millions of pet deaths could be prevented with a collar and ID tag, or a microchip implant, which cost only a few dollars.

A door or gate left accidentally open is an invitation for your pet to start exploring. Once outside, they may not find their way back home. If your pet has a collar with an ID tag, whoever finds it can contact you. But do you think your pet has a chance without an ID tag or microchip? If you're lucky and it’s found close to where you live, then maybe yes, but the further away it gets, the chances of being returned to you go from slim to none.

There are many good samaritans out there wiling to help when they see a stray animal, but not everybody can accommodate a pet, or another pet, and the poor animal will end up in the shelter. Sadly, shelters will "dispose" of homeless pets that can't be returned to their owners or adopted.

I started this petition to make ID tags or microchips mandatory in order to save millions of pets each year.

Please join me and sign this petition, to prevent the deaths of millions of lost pets, which could be prevented with an ID tag or microchip. Please help saving millions of "family members". Thank you.
