As if glass ceilings are not enough: PM&DC must stop discrimination against female applicants to medical schools in Pakistan.

The issue

On 4th September, 2014, Pakistan Medical & Dental Council has decided to abolish the merit system for admissions in the medical colleges of Pakistan. Currently, 80% of successfully admitted students are female, and the Council seeks to change this and limit female admissions to 50%. This decision directly violates the constitutional rights of Pakistani Citizens for equal opportunity and to be free of discrimination.
This decision of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, to abolish merit based admission policy for medical colleges, directly contradicts government support of Malala's achievements.

This decision is based on anecdotal assumptions and no research has been conducted by PMDC. As part of a recently conducted study which has produced a set of recommendations (completely ignored by PM&DC) medical graduates are concerned about security and safety which is stopping them from practising and lack of women friendly policies further inhibits girls from joining postgraduate training programs.
