This petition is to ask North American law enforcement officers to take a personal oath to never use lethal force.  The inspiration for this comes frim the television show The Lone Ranger.

           "Here gun to kill bad men."

          "I am not going to do any killing."

          "You not defend yourself?"

           "Oh, I'll shoot if I have to.  But I'll shoot to wound, not to kill.  If a man must die, it is up to the law to decide that, not the person behind the six-shooter"

The Lone Ranger may have been a comic-strip joke but the estimated 400 to 1,000 people now being killed annually in North Aemerica in law enforcement encounters is not a joke.   It is a serious matter with which we need to deal to restore respect for the law.

 This petition is an opportunity for ordinary people to ask police to make it their responsility to ensure the use of lethal force stops.

 For this petition to have any effect lots of people will have to sign it.  Please sign it now and encourage lots of others to do likewise.

 If a man must die it should be with the wisdom of the courts rathers than the emotions of a person holding a gun.
