We the undersigned call on you to reinstate the €325 that was cut from the Respite Care Grant in Budget 2013. That cut continues to hit family carers extremely hard. Carers need the full grant. Some to take a short break to recharge from the emotionally and physically draining role of caring, others to simply cover vital costs such as special dietary requirements, equipment and heating.
Budget 2015 should be the Budget that begins to ease the financial strain on family carers. We implore you to avail of the opportunity of the upcoming Social Welfare Bill to restore the €325 to the Respite Care Grant in 2015.
