Grant DFW access to Hatchery and Inland Fisheries Fund

Grant DFW access to Hatchery and Inland Fisheries Fund
The Issue
A posting on the DFW website (11/7/14) indicated that trout stocking will be reduced by more than half in 2015 and the fish will be smaller. The impact of this plan would be devastating to "put and take lakes" throughout California. The document states the DFW will produce 1.6 million pounds (.25 lbs./fish) of trout in 2015, in 2010 the DFW produced 3.6 million pounds (.50 lbs./fish) of trout, which is closer to the amount mandatd by AB 7-2006. AB 7 states that the DFW will produce and stock 2.75 pounds of trout based on 33 1/3% of the fees derived from the issuance of all sport fishing licenses. By releasing the Hatchery and Inland Fisheries Fund to the DFW on a permanent basis, the DFW would be able to increase the number and size of the trout produced and stocked. With the increased cost to the DFW (for numerous reasons) has risen, it is more important than ever to increase revenue available to the DFW. The economic impact to the fishing industry and to fishing license revenue for the state could be siginifcant and continue for years to come.
