Create a joint venture dedicated to the WB-owned classic MGM library of pre-1986 films, television shows, and cartoons (with the working name "MGM Classics")

The Issue

MGM no longer owns its classic film and television library after Ted Turner bought the rights to it in 1986, which was later sold to Time Warner in 1996 and now currently handled by Warner Bros. (instead of MGM themselves).

On November 2009, MGM and Warner Bros. teamed up and released a trailer to celebrate 85 years of MGM's lucrative moviemaking by promoting everything from Gone with the Wind to The Wizard of Oz to Ben Hur to Doctor Zhivago to 2001: A Space Odyssey to Moonstruck to Thelma and Louise to Legally Blonde for video on-demand and through digital downloads.

Five years later, on January 2014, MGM has released another milestone trailer celebrating their 90th anniversay...which excludes all their classics. Instead, it's dedicated to several film libraries that they've acquired over the years but whose films aren't made by MGM; so it only promotes movies from the United Artists, Orion Pictures, pre-1996 PolyGram, and Samuel Goldwyn Company libraries, not MGM's in-house productions...well except for Thelma and Louise. So they were claiming that they made the UA, Orion, PolyGram and SGC movies themselves, but that's really incorrect.

So, since MGM was collaborating with other studios now, they should rejoin forces with Warner Bros. to recelebrate their 90th anniversary by forming a joint venture, a new brand which was to be called "MGM Classics". In fact, WB should acquire a license of MGM's name and trademarks for use on their library of pre-May 1986 titles that they made over the years, ranging from Gone with the Wind to The Wizard of Oz to Tom and Jerry to Ben Hur to Doctor Zhivago to 2001: A Space Odyssey (there are many others in the said library; see more of them on these Wikipedia lists [film, television and cartoon], made all the way up to May 1986), while MGM would reunite with the library, lease some rights to it (such as digital distribution rights on behalf of WB, along with ThisTV, MGM Channel/HD, and Epix rights while Warner keeps their broadcast rights), and promote ALL the movies they made themselves, classic and contemporary. MGM's lion mascot is one of the most popular logos in history, spanning over 90 years of existence, it was famous for opening the aforementioned titles, and that’s perfect fitting for WB. WB already preserved MGM's history, and MGM already mentioned the two 1939 classics on their website and kept their 85th anniversary video (before the 90th anniversay ones). If MGM signs a deal with WB and lets them use their trademarks on the MGM pre-1986 library owned by them, especially for sales, merchandising, home media releases, and digital distribution, then movie buffs everywhere would be so relieved.

Also, on a side note, MGM should co-invest/produce WB’s future productions based on the pre-1986 titles.
