Don't Bin Tin Pan Alley!

      Save the 12 bar

Preserve the heritage and integrity of Denmark Street, Tin Pan Alley and in particular the 12 Bar Club and to give the area the same special conservation status as Hatton Garden and Savile Row.

Denmark Street has a long history dating back to the 1690’s and has been a Mecca for musicians from all genres from Jazz to Punk and everything in between.  The independent shops, recording studios and bars give the place a unique ambience which has attracted the likes of Lionel Bart, Jimi Hendrix, The Kinks, George Harrison, Thin Lizzy, Elton John, David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Rolling Stones, Small Faces, The Sex Pistols and countless others to shop, record or write there.

Today the 12 Bar Club plays host to live music 7 nights a week and continues the streets long tradition of giving a stage to musicians - local, national and international - who want their music to be heard and customers who want to hear it.  There is nowhere like it in the West End, or anywhere else.  It is essential that the venue survives to both provide a platform for future bands to ply their craft and to provide a venue for audiences who appreciate live music in an intimate setting.

It is a unique place, with Grade II Listing, and steeped in a history that should be preserved and maintained for future generations.  Too many of London’s historical venues have been lost to developers or big businesses; we implore you not to let the 12 Bar Club be the next on that shameful list.

we have now made a huge milestone, and the ball still rolling. As always thanks to everyone who signed and shared. My apologies for being a little quiet recently - a combination of being extremely busy with work and ill health.
Negotiations still ongoing, but will let you all know when something concrete to report.

    4. 8000!!

We have done it! I can now present the petition to Camden Council and force them to discuss this issue and make a presentation to them. At the risk of sounding like an Oscar winner, there really is a few people I have to mention because without them this wouldn't have happened. Firstly Dave Renegade for setting up the campaign, Jane Palm-Gold for her invaluable help on the history of Denmark Street, Matt Gaffen for getting involved and helping with the IT, Henry Scott-Irvine for tweeting like a demon and creating much needed publicity for the campaign and last (but by no means least) each and every person who has signed, shared, tweeted, posted and just generally supported the campaign. To (badly) quote Churchill, this isn't the end, this isn't even the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning - watch this space there is (lots) more to come!

    6. Nearly there!

Had to go into work for a few hours, so slightly belated but 7000!! well done! less than 1000 to go to hit the magic 8000. Its a bank holiday weekend so let's have one last push to hit the target. It would be wonderful if the first thing that appears on the newly elected councillors desk is this petition

    7. Reached 7,000 signatures
    8. 5000!

Yet another milestone reached. Cannot thank everyone who has signed enough. The campaign is attracting attention from journalists and big names in the music industry. If anyone would like to become more involved, or lend their name to the campaign, please feel free to contact me privately on the save the 12 bar page on facebook - I would love to hear from you!

    9. Reached 5,000 signatures

Yet another milestone reached! Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way, whether it is just signing or sharing or generating publicity (thanks guys, you know who you are) We seem to be averaging 1000 signatures a day - so at this rate we should reach the target on Monday - that would be 8000 signatures in a week.
Still 4000 to go though, so don't stop here, lets keep the momentum going

I am a Musician and Denmark street and all of those Music Shops are part of the British Music History, that street should be protected by the Government forever instead of taking any of those shops down to build unpleasant concrete boxes for human beings...
