Introduce Dairy-Free Ice Cream

The Issue

I used to enjoy ice cream in large quantities when I was young, and then recently I became vegan. Fortunately there are some wonderful vegan ice creams out there made from soy and almond milk. G and D's is massively popular in Oxford with both students of the university and non-students, and it is unfair that both vegans and people with lactose intolerance should not be able to have ice cream with friends who can. From an environmental point of view the majority recognise the devastating effects of livestock production, and companies should be making small changes before it is too late.

Many thanks for your support.

Responded
Hi all, It's really awesome to see so much enthusiasm and interest in our products! One of the best things about G&D's is our ability to respond to new ideas brought to us by our lovely customers, something which makes us very happy indeed. As most G&D's customers know, we have always produced a range of dairy free frozen products. We like the variety and they taste good! Soy milk, coconut milk and almond milk are all part of a range of natural ingredients we have used in the past and will continue to use. For example, over the summer we have developed a flavour we called Punctillio which is a toasted almond and coffee flavoured soy milk non-ice cream flavour. We also do frequent "Guest Nights" where we invite keen foodies from the local community to use our kitchen facilities to develop their dream flavours Cocomangonut (mango sorbet layered with coconut ice cream) is an example of a flavour recently in the shops that came out of our most recent Guest Night. I know that an upcoming guest is going to be experimenting with a soy and almond milk flavour idea. We like cows and dairy products -- surprise!--but we have never limited our natural food horizons to just dairy based products and we never will. One of the greatest G&D's traditions is the Flavour Petition book- which has given rise to a great number of ice creams and sorbets over the years, including dairy free options! You can find a petition in each branch of G&D's and we really encourage anyone with a dream flavour to come in and get one started! The sky is the limit for us- and we love doing new things and we're always happy to experiment with anything we can get our hands on! So if you have ideas for the perfect non-dairy flavour that you want us to have a go at- get a petition started in store, or even drop us a line on twitter or Facebook, we'd love to hear them all! (and you never know- you might be the inventor of the next G&D's classic flavour!) G&D's
