OUR ANSWER TO MR. HERRERA DISMISSIVE REMARKS (as sent by email to the FIFA web page) Dear FIFA Committee members, The word "PUTO" is homophobic. It denigrates gay men and all women in Mexico (it means male for "whore"). Everybody knows that in Mexico. You would not accept football audiences yelling "FAGGOT” in English. Why do you accept the occurrence in any other language? We are 170+ (and counting) Mexican citizens respectfully asking you to reconsider your decision on the matter and enforce your own Disciplinary Code of Conduct, Article 58. With Mexico being a country where gay people and women are attacked and assassinated just for their sexual orientation and genre, this is not funny. Disciplining Mr. Herrera for his jokes and remarks encouraging the use of the word would be a historical and educational measure for people in Mexico. It would be an unpopular but humanitarian and responsible decision. We are only asking you to live up to your own codes of conduct.
