Free Mohammad Azadi

The issue

Mohammad Azadi is an Iranian asylum seeker - a Sunni Muslim who faces persecution from the majority Shi'a Government of Iran.

Mohammad's brother was killed for his religious beliefs, so Mohammad decided to flee to Australia hoping to find safety.

After being told that his application for asylum had been unsuccessful, Mohammad attempted suicide in February of this year rather than return to his country.

Mohammad has now been taken from his home in the early hours of the morning by 15 armed Federal Police and 5 Immigration Officials, and has been put back into detention.  He has refused to sign the 'voluntary' relocation agreements which would return him to Iran, and officials have threatened him with removal to Manus Island.

Mohammad Azadi is a peaceful, shy man, beloved to all who knew him during his 3 years living in the Hobart community.  He regularly volunteered his time to help others and was persistent in his belief that he would eventually find justice and protection in our country.

We call on the Immigration Department to release Mohammad into the Hobart community that he loves, until the facts of his case are reviewed, including proof which has just recently come to light about the death of his brother.
