Appeal the Zoning Board Decision for Project Safe Haven: Support Recovery in Orange County
The Issue
On October 10, 2018 the Paoli Indiana Zoning Board denied use of 202 Cherry St. Paoli, Indiana for Project Safe Haven, a place for addicts and their families to get support, encouragement, strength, and hope. We believe the decision of the board is unjust, unfair and does a disservice to all citizens of Orange County. We have no recovery center in Paoli and a drug epidemic that is worsening daily. Please sign the petition to appeal and overturn the decision of the zoning board, and demand recovery options in Orange Country.
About Project Safe Haven:
The Safe Haven is a place for addicts and their families to get support, encouragement, strength, and hope. A safe place to stay as well as get connected to local resources for treatment and recovery. Safe Haven has three main objectives:
1. Offer a safe space for recovering addicts that know is drug free and recovery oriented. Think YMCA for recovery.
2. To be a clearinghouse of resources in the county: that one connection point where active or recovering addicts can be connected to treatment, recovery resources, and social services such as transportation, employment, clothing, housing
3. To be a central location to hold recovery meetings, including 12 step, SMART, and faith based programs. All are welcome!
We want to be able to connect people to treatment and then have a safe place for them and others to be able to maintain a positive atmosphere and remain in recovery. It is extremely difficult for addicts and alcoholics to get sober and remain sober without the proper resources. We are not going to be a needle exchange, medical assisted treatment, or a treatment center. We are also providing for the ones that are dealing with an alcoholic/addict on the family/friend side to give them the resources they need for their recovery as well. This is a family/friend disease, when one gets sick we all get sick. People are dying and families are being torn apart and we are sick and tired of sitting back and watching it. Let's start making a difference and give some love and hope and start to save our community and loved ones.
