Petition to Keep John A. Macdonald Sculpture at the Picton Library. Friends of Macdonald

The Issue

What has happened to the John A. Macdonald sculpture in front of the Picton Library over the past several weeks has been shocking.  Cancel culture has arrived. Vandalism is not the way we bring about change in Canada.

There has been a lot of misleading and inaccurate information circulated about John A. Macdonald with no fair forum to correct this information.  All of the claims from social activists are either false or misleading.

The Macdonald Project would like to speak to County Council before the decision is made about the future of the Abernethy sculpture.  For a documented historical perspective of John A. Macdonald and his relationship with Canada’s Indigenous people of Canada, please go to www.macdonaldproject.com/education

Detailed information regarding Sir John A. Macdonald will be presented to PEHAC and County Council in the form of a 7 page historical background paper.

We, the undersigned, support the continued presence of the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald and plaque in front of the Picton Library as a proud reminder of the place where Macdonald began his career as an attorney at the age of twenty.
