Tell the Department of Energy to Save Monkeys from NASA's Cruelty

The Issue

New York's Brookhaven National Laboratory-which operates under the authority of the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE)-is currently considering accepting taxpayer money from NASA to blast up to 30 squirrel monkeys with a harmful dose of space radiation. The monkeys would then be sent to Harvard's McLean Hospital, where they would be subjected to years of behavioral experiments to observe the damage that the radiation causes to their brains and bodies. Additionally, NASA may use them for more experiments in the future!

In the past, similar experiments have caused these sensitive, intelligent animals to develop cataracts, cognitive deficits, brain tumors, and other serious illnesses.

Luckily, modern in vitro and clinical research methods can be used to study the effects of space radiation on the human body.

Please contact Dr. William Brinkman in the DoE's Department of Science and politely ask him to take immediate action to permanently halt all plans to expose monkeys to radiation at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
