Now that we have had the unthinkable happen in the Islamic community in the US the murder of three innocent children (Syeed, Syeeda and Ayesha) by their father (who attempted to kill himself and failed), we must make Domestic Abuse Education a priority in our Islamic communities.  We can no longer continue to be stagnant and caplacent about the ugly reality of domestic abuse and the harm it can cause when it goes unchecked.

So far the unofficial death toll of people in the Islamic community to be murdered due to a spouse or family member is 25 (still doing research on this subject) since 1993. We have had five deaths this year alone and two in 2008.  This includes a Muslim man who was shot in his sleep by his Muslim wife.  No more silence from our leaders, no more hiding from the issue and no more wishing it away. It is here and it is only going away when we fight it with education and awareness.
