H.R. 411 - The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act of 2009
Please support this great legislation!
Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA 1st) has introduced a fantastic piece of legislation that Big Cat Rescue supports called the Great Cats and Rare Canids Act of 2009. This legislation will direct the Secretary of the Interior to provide assistance for projects for the conservation of rare felids and rare canids, as well as to convene an advisory group of individuals that represent the public and private organizations actively involved in the conservation of felids and canids.
More specifically, the legislation restricts the use of grants for captive breeding or display purposes -something Big Cat Rescue strongly agrees with! Please take a moment to send a letter using the form below and urge your elected officials to not only sign on to co-sponsor this bill, but to support its full passage.

Our country is in desperate need of tougher laws regulating the breeding and possession of exotic animals, particularly exotic cats.
Unfortunately, many individuals own exotic cats and attempt to call it conservation, when in fact, they breed cats for profit. The only sanctioned international breeding plan for exotic cats is called the Species Survival Plan (SSP) and it is only carried out in accredited zoos.
Ask yourself this simple question -- does the captive breeding of exotic big cats do anything to save that species in the wild? Of course not!
