Urge Dallas Area Rapid Transit to Add Gender Identity to Nondiscrimination Policies
The Issue
The Economic Opportunity and Diversity Committee of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system has approved a measure that would add gender identity to DART's nondiscrimination policy. The move is particularly important in the wake of an incident involving a transgender employee who was openly discriminated against by DART officials, told that she couldn't wear certain clothing to work, wear her hair a certain way, or use any bathrooms.
This measure now goes before DART's entire Board of Directors, who will vote on the measure in June 2010. Take a second and urge these DART board members to support a nondiscrimination policy that includes gender identity. No employee should have to face discrimination at the workplace, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, gender, age, or disability status.
