Tell the Senate: Keep Reducing Our Nuclear Arsenal

The Issue

Recent studies have shown that even a limited nuclear exchange of 50 to 100 nuclear weapons could cause devastating global cooling that would disrupt growing seasons and lead to the deaths of one billion people from the resulting famine. With the US and Russia maintaining thousands of nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert and nuclear-armed India and Pakistan still at odds, the elimination of all nuclear weapons is more urgent than ever.

President Obama has stated his goal of a world free of nuclear weapons and right now we have a historical opportunity for the US and Russia to play a leadership role in bringing other countries of the world on board.

There is a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) on the table that must be ratified by 67 votes in the U.S. Senate. But some senators want to invest billions of dollars in new nuclear weapons production facilities in exchange for a "Yes" vote on ratification. 

Tell your senators to ratify the New START agreement without preconditions or billions in new funding for the nuclear weapons complex.
