TARGET: The government

Long but fairly thorough petition.

"The war on drugs has been an utter failure. They need to rethink and decriminalize our nations marijuana laws."
-Barack Obama, January 2004

Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?

Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug in America (behind only alcohol and tobacco), and has been used by nearly 80 million Americans. According to government surveys, some 20 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past year, and more than 11 million do so regularly despite harsh laws against its use. Our public policies should reflect this reality, not deny it.

In early October 2008, America made its 20-millionth marijuana arrest, topping a record 872,000 arrests in 2007, 90% of which were for the possession of a small amount of pot. Vast sums of taxpayer%u2019s money continue to be wasted every day in America%u2019s failed cannabis prohibition efforts. A simple, but revolutionary change to a tax and regulate posture on cannabis a from to our current %u201Cwar on weed%u201D policy could have a combined net positive effect on our increasingly strapped federal and state budgets by as much as $50 billion annually to the good. And, to top this off, America%u2019s cannabis users want to be taxed!!! We want to be treated normal.

Marijuana is not a gateway drug, cigarettes and alcohol are. Children try alcohol or cigarettes before they even know what marijuana is. Why criminalize marijuana and not cigarettes or alcohol as both are much more harmful to your health that marijuana.

Marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. By comparison, marijuana is nontoxic and cannot cause death by overdose. According to the prestigious European medical journal, The lancet, "The smoking of cannabis, even long-term, is not harmful to health. It would be reasonable to judge cannabis as less of a threat than alcohol or tobacco."

Obama: "When it comes to medical marijuana,  my attitude is if it is an issue of doctors prescribing marijuana, I think that should be appropriate."

Marijuana, or cannabis, as it is more appropriately called, has been part of humanity's medicine chest for almost as long as history has been recorded.

Of all the negative consequences of marijuana prohibition, none is as tragic as the denial of medicinal cannabis to the tens of thousands of patients who could benefit from its therapeutic use.

Modern research suggests that cannabis is a valuable aid in the treatment of a wide range of clinical applications.[4] These include pain relief -- particularly of neuropathic pain (pain from nerve damage) -- nausea, spasticity, glaucoma, and movement disorders.[5] Marijuana is also a powerful appetite stimulant, specifically for patients suffering from HIV, the AIDS wasting syndrome, or dementia.[6] Emerging research suggests that marijuana's medicinal properties may protect the body against some types of malignant tumors [7] and are neuroprotective.

Currently, more than 60 U.S. and international health organizations support granting patients immediate legal access to medicinal marijuana under a physician's supervision.

Enforcing marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers an estimated $10 billion annually and results in the arrest of more than 829,000 individuals per year -- far more than the total number of arrestees for all violent crimes combined, including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

"I inhaled frequently, that was the point."
-Barack Obama, November 2006

Will you stand up for your legal rights to use marijuana and change our governing drug laws. Supporting marijuana does not mean you support other drugs. Marijuana is something special god gave us on earth to help us, and the governtment is stopping us from using a herb. Will you stand for this? or STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN. WE CAN CHANGE MARIJUANA LAWS. WE CAN BE THE CHANGE.

"Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S."

Free Cannabis Hemp
Target: U.S.Supreme Court, Public Information Officer, The Highest Court of the U.S.A.
Sponsor: HOLY HOLIAN

Cannabis Hemp is an important plant in medicine and should be made legal for that purpose. We should be able to grow this plant freely for our utilization in medicine, nutrients, clothing, rope. Cannabis is the only plant when given to me for medicine, 2 tablespoons of the oil, I had a profound healing in my spine in a few minutes, removing half of the chronic pain and inflamation. Research says that the plant has the same omega 6 to 3 ratio as our body and turns into synapses in the brain to allow the neurotransmitters and impulses, hormones to go from one brain cell to the other and give the messages of healing to the brain to perform healing in the needed areas. This plant should be free for anyone to grow, especially for those whom are in need of its healing ability.

Sign now and ensure that Cannabis is allowed for medicinal purposes.

Industrial Hemp for Fuel and Farming Target: Arnold Schwartzenegger, California governer, US government
Sponsor: Kathryn Whitman, Industrial Hemp for Fuel and Farming I am not signing this one because BURNING ANYTHING PRODUCES CO2 (carbon dioxide). there is no such thing as a "clean burning" fuel, period. While it might be a good idea as a transitional measure to get off of dirtier fuels, it is not a good permanent habit to get into. Solar, Wind are all we need to make the cleanest energy electricity ever known to man.

I will not sign this petition because it claims that nuclear energy is a "cleaner" fuel. This is not true. The petition writer does not know his facts about this issue. I recommend Dr. Helen Caldicott's book, "Nuclear Power Is Not the Answer" for those who want the real scoop on how DIRTY nuclear power is.
