The last-minute reversal October 14th by New York’s Mayer Bloomberg, “postponing” the publicly announced physical removal of “the Occupiers” from the Wall Street area, constitutes a major alteration in the relationship between The 99%-ers and The 1% of the population, who own and control the country’s wealth. It constitutes a definite “moral victory” for The 99%!  And it could become an historical turning point toward new relationships among The 99% themselves, and with the traditional US government -- a "New Direction" in The History of the United States of America.  The feasability of this action and more is considered further with this petition.  Being a petition, it seeks signatures of agreement. An October 14th holiday could be merged quite sensibly with the already disputed Columbus Day holiday October 12th.   But no matter who first “found” North America, Columbus precipitated the European Colonizers, who “civilized the “New World” according to their own ideas; now the 99% is striving to realign the power structure that has developed since.

So, then, this petition is written with serious awareness that any significant changes in a society take a lot of time, work, commitment, and cooperation. Beyond commemorating past events, having the holiday would itself function to remind people of the positive changes they have been working to bring about. Thus, it would serve both to inspire and also to guide people to rededicate themselves to that cause.
