Kerbside Recycling for Whitsundays

The issue

Kerbside Recycling is an environmental initiative that is standard in many communities throughout Australia but is not available for residents adjacent to a World Heritage Area.

We are situated on the perimeter of a World Heritage Area and in close proximity with several national parks. Public rubbish bins have both recycling and non-recycling sections, but for locals to regularly recycle they need to separate and take their own recyclable materials to the transfer station themselves. Council amalgamation has reduced the previously prohibitive expense involved in kerbside recycling, and the high rates locals pay to live here should cover and include fortnightly kerbside recycling.
