Pass The Women's Reservation Bill In The Lok Sabha #ready2lead #33percentNow
The Issue
We just have three weeks left to get the most empowering bill for women, passed in the parliament. This Women's Reservation Bill gives immense power to women in politics. This bill will ensure 33% reservation for women in parliament.
But in order to get the bill passed, our political leaders need to take action and pass it in the Lok Sabha. The last session of current Parliament ends on 22nd February 2014. We don’t have much time.
The United Progressive Alliance has a majority in the Lok Sabha. UPA has the power to give a strong political voice to millions of women in India.
That’s why 35 women organisations have come together to start this petition asking the UPA president Sonia Gandhi to ensure that the bill gets passed in the Lok Sabha.
If thousands of us come together and put pressure on Sonia Gandhi. She would know that the whole nation is watching her actions.
The bill has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010 and has since been awaiting approval in Lok Sabha. The next three weeks are crucial, that’s why we need as much support as we can get on this petition.
This landmark legislation will pave the way for women’s representation in our Parliament and give a strong political voice to women at the national level.
Women constitute about 50% of the population in India and deserve a stronger voice in politics. Sonia Gandhi has the power to change lives of millions of women.
We need to act now and put pressure on the government so that the the bill is not held hostage to uncertainties of the new Parliament.
This bill is not just about reservation, it is about giving women in India a strong political voice. History has shown how women in rural areas have transformed the Panchayats or village councils.
Please sign this petition and join us in asking the UPA, President Sonia Gandhi to get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in Lok Sabha and give voice to millions of women in our country.
We could see massive shift in the country’s political movement if the bill gets passed.
