Protect the Forests of Buxa

Protect the Forests of Buxa
The Issue
The Buxa Tiger Reserve in Northern West Bengal is one of the richest areas of biodiversity in India. It has been known to harbour more than 284 different species of birds, 73 types of mammals, 76 species of snakes, 5 different kinds of amphibians.
The Reserve Forest is home to many endangered species as well like the Asian Elephant, the Leopard cat, the Bengal Florican and the Regal Python amongst others.
Recently there has been some disturbing news. Not only has the River Jayanti dried up, thus extinguishing the forest's main source of water, but there has been repeated incidents of elephant poaching and the miscreants have escaped scot-free.
We are asking the Ministry of Environment and Forests to look into this matter immediately and take steps to protect one of the most diverse wild-life habitats we have in our country. The current blinded approach to the unmitigated damage of the forests and its occupants will result in irreversible damage to the ecosystem in Buxa.
Help us protect our biodiversity. Join us as we begin to initiate a change by education and awareness. Sign the petition!
