The All African Bishops Conference is gathering in Uganda this month, bringing together quite a large body of religious leaders from across the continent of Africa, and indeed, from around the globe. This gathering provides the All African Bishops Conference a rare opportunity to join the growing chorus of religious leaders around the world in condemning Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill, a harsh piece of legislation still under consideration in Uganda, that would institute the death penalty for gay people living with HIV, and enact harsh prison sentences for anyone convicted of homosexuality.

On the Truth Wins Out web site, an activist from Uganda, Kushaba Moses Mworeko, issued a touching statement urging the All African Bishops Conference to take this bold step. It would send a message to the world that no religion tolerates violence toward another, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV-status.

"It is time for Christian leaders in Africa to start promoting peace and stop persecuting LGBT people," said Kushaba Moses Mworeko, who recently escaped to the United States. "I call on the Anglican Church to speak out forcefully against the Anti-Homosexuality Bill and to support decriminalizing gay relationships across the continent. As the church grows in Africa it must choose to be a force for good and not intolerance."

Send the All African Bishops' Conference a message that they should be a force for good, and stand up to repressive laws like Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
