UK Government: Enforce the UK law which forbids Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

The Issue

Some 24,000 or more girls and babies in the UK are at risk of FGM every year, but so far no full legal action has ever been taken against those who perform or procure this cruel abuse.

Damage from FGM - frequently performed without anaesthetic or any hygiene measures - is usually permanent, often serious, and can be fatal. FGM causes life-long damage to health and well-being, it may be associated with child marriage, and it often marks the end of effective schooling for the girl concerned.  Doing everything humanly possible to halt this grimly unimaginable child abuse is imperative, now.

Thank you.
