Provide a 'Green Bridge' over the Woolwich Road linking Maryon Park and an enlarged Barrier Park as part of any future development around Charlton Riverside

The Issue

The stretch of the Woolwich Road between the Antigallican and Warspite Road is busy and fast-moving. For the majority of local residents that live on its southern side, many of whom now have young children that attend Windrush Charlton, crossing the road can be treacherous.

The road also stands as a barrier to improved connectivity between Charlton and the river; connectivity that is essential if we’re to overcome the historic division between Charlton Village and Charlton Riverside in the years ahead.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Charlton Masterplan contained a number of proposals to improve connectivity and safety in the area including enhancement of the Charlton Church Lane/Woolwich Road junction and pedestrian and cycling improvements to Anchor and Hope Lane. It also made clear the council’s intention to secure a strong connection between Maryon Park and an enlarged Barrier Park.

I strongly believe that such a connection should take the form of a ‘green bridge’ that would provide a strong, safe and environmentally beneficial link from Charlton to the river. A green bridge would also expand opportunities for the pupils of Windrush Charlton Primary to more easily utilise the beautiful settings of nearby Maryon Park and Maryon Wilson Park.

Please support me in calling on the Royal Borough of Greenwich to do all it can to ensure that a green bridge linking Maryon Park and an enlarged Barrier Park is built as part of any future development in the area.
