The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Committee: Have Hatsune Miku perform in the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
The Issue
No, we're not suggesting this because of some warped view that all Japanese citizens are otaku or anything, just to get that out of the way.
Congratulations to Tokyo for winning the the 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games! As we know, the spirit of the Olympic Games is the unity between people, that regardless of what part of the world they hail from, they can all gather in one place to play sport together as one international community.
Hatsune Miku and the vocaloid software is a powerful symbol of that message, with her and the unique sound of vocaloids having spread worldwide, garning quite an international following of people who can appreciate vocaloid music in many ways, either by creating music themselves, listening to that of others, or even simply enjoying the Hatsune Miku rhythm games.
As a virtual idol, Hatsune Miku also represents what Japan is most internationally recognised for - its technological achievements. Obviously, Hatsune Miku is a fictional character, except that she's had actual live concerts using hologram technology.
With these aspects all put together, it's clear that Hatsune Miku would be a perfect fit as a symbol for Japan and the Olympic Games.
There was a lot of talk about Hatsune Miku performing at the London 2012 Olympic Games, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. However, with the Olympics now in Hatsune Miku's home country, it's the perfect chance.
