Mayors for the Freedom to Marry is a broad-based and nonpartisan group of mayors who believe that all people should be able to share in the love and commitment of marriage. Over 150 US Mayors have signed the Freedom to Marry Statement, including the Mayors of the Nations largest cities, but so far no Mayor in Tennessee has signed. As the largest gay rights organization in Tennessee, it is important that the Tennessee Equality Project join with the Freedom to Marry organization and ask Mayor Dean and other Tennessee Mayors to support this effort.  We ask that the Tennessee Equality Project contact Mayors in as many cities as possible in Tennessee and ask them to sign this Statement.  Tennessee is a long way from allowing same-sex marriage, but we believe it will happen in our lifetime, and that everyone who believes in the fundamental right of gay people to love and marry the person of their choosing should speak up and support their gay and lesbian family members, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.  More information about Freedom to Marry can be found here www.freedomtomarry.org, and the Mayors for the Freedom to Marry Statement is here http://www.freedomtomarry.org/expressionengine.php?/pages/mayors-for-marriage-statement.  The list of Mayors who have signed the statement is here http://www.freedomtomarry.org/pages/meet-the-mayors
