Tell New Jersey Gov to Sign Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights
The Issue
The New Jersey legislature has passed the "Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights," which would provide the strongest anti-bullying protections in the country. The LGBT-inclusive bill includes statewide standards, training, and monitoring, but avoids unfunded mandates by the use of existing resources. It also has strong bipartisan support: the Senate voted 30 to 0 and the Assembly 72 to 1 to approve the legislation.
The bill has been in progress for a long time, but the recent suicide of Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi, the subject of anti-gay bullying, has made the need even more urgent. Ask Gov. Chris Christie to sign the bill to better protect all New Jersey students and honor Clementi's legacy.
