Tell Congressman Mike Capuano: Don't Accept Cash from Citigroup!
The Issue
Congressman Mike Capuano is recognized as a progressive hero in the United States House of Representatives -- but he recently accepted $5,000 from lobbyists for Citigroup, Inc.
As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, it is a conflict of interest for Congressman Capuano to accept campaign cash from one of the big banks that he is charged with regulating.
Moreover, as someone who has expressed support for Occupy Boston and the Occupy Wall Street movement, it doesn't make sense for Congressman Capuano to accept money from Wall Street lobbyists.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that Congressman Capuano has never faced an electoral challenge in his thirteen-year Congressional career -- so there's really no need for him to hold on to this cash. He should return the money to Citigroup -- because doing so would set a better example for our democracy!
