The Afghan Parliament is expected to approve an improved marriage law that removes some of the most oppressive language from a previous draft but still gives husbands too much power over their wives. Meanwhile, enforcement of laws prohibiting violence against women and equal human rights barely exists in the country.

With the expanded U.S. role in Afghanistan comes a responsibility to support and encourage women's rights. Urge President Obama and your Congressional representatives to support laws and enforcement of women's rights in Afghanistan.
