In the centre of England lies a small village called Dorridge. A small village that tells a very big story about supermarkets, their superpowers, and what can happen to communities when Supermarkets leave them high and dry.

There are towns like Dorridge all over the country. Sainsbury's came in, bought up 50% of the retail space and vital community facilities. They promised a scheme that would create jobs, regeneration, a better doctor's surgery, new places to dine, and a public square. The council supported them, the planners said yes and the community waited for 5 years. 

But this is only the start of Dorridge's story; this is the village where Sainsbury's CEO grew up. The village is less than ten miles from his current home. The village where his friends still live and their children still play.

If Justin King will do this here, how low will Sainsbury's go elsewhere?

This isn't only a story about Dorridge - it's about supermarkets, their social conscience and operating values. Supermarkets CAN do this; buy up a town, board it up and leave.
